Rovera takes FIA WEC maiden win at Spa on Ferrari in GTE Am

Italian GT champion dominated the first round of the World Endurance Championship with Perrodo and Nielsen on #83 AF Corse 488 Evo: “A dream came true, I kept my fingers crossed until the last corner!”

Spa (Belgium). Alessio Rovera marked his FIA WEC debut taking a brilliant victory in LMGTE Am class at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on Ferrari 488 Evo GTE. The 25-year-old Italian driver shared the #83 AF Corse car and all the first round of the 2021 World Endurance Championship together with teammates François Perrodo from France and Nicklas Nielsen from Denmark.

Rovera also set the fastest lap of LMGTE Am category with the time of 2'14.111 and he managed to take the lead 1 hour and 20 minutes into the race. From that moment on, the AF Corse crew dominated their class finishing first over 44 seconds in front of second-placed drivers and lapping the rest of the field.

The second round of the 2021 FIA WEC will take place in Portimao (Portugal) in mid-June.

Rovera said after Spa: The team managed the race in a perfect way, still I kept my fingers crossed until the very last corner! We knew we could count on a reliable car and a potentially high rhythm. Our pace has been good since the official testing days. We were able to put everything all together even in the most difficult situations. I could not even dream of a FIA WEC debut better than this, but it's here! Now we are leading our category in the standings, this means that from the next race everything will be even more complicated, we have to keep the tension at the highest levels as we did here in Spa, where I really enjoyed getting back behind the wheel of such a competitive Ferrari”.
